The adventures of a group of complete strangers as they prepare to cycle the length of the country bringing musical cheer to fans of hi-ambition/lo-tech music. All in aid of Cancer Research

The Return of Buskers On Bikes

In the summer of 2011, a group of 7 cycling musicians completed their trip from land's end to John O' Groats, cycling and busking, raising money for Cancer Research UK. It was a once in a lifetime experience for all of them, and they raised nearly £9,000 - just 1,000 short of their target.

In one final attempt to meet the target, the buskers are organising an evening of music and festive fun on December 1st 2011 at The Albany, Great Portland Street.

Our Story

What happens when a four-pints-down pub idea becomes a knee-knocking reality?

The story begins on a dank October night in 2010 in the King's Arms pub just off Tower Bridge, as an intrepid little group (of strangers, mostly) gather to answer a call-to-arms for an incredible musical adventure. Forget Guy Fawkes and his co- conspirators bashing their tankards together and plotting at the Duck and Drake, this was history in the making, and unlike the fumbling Fawkes, we weren't going to make a hash of it.

The idea? To form a travelling band and cycle the length of the country, from Land's End to John O'Groats, stopping only to lug our guitars, double-basses, ukuleles and kazoos from the back of a van and stage a series of gutsy, foot-stomping gigs. And hopefully raise a pot-load of money for Busking Cancer, an off-shoot of Cancer Research UK, at the same time.

Six months on, and with time ticking inexorably towards our 24 July start date, things are slipping into place beautifully. A bravura band of healthy, hearty travellers with incomparable musical nous and the legs for the journey (as in, we've all got legs) are primed and (almost) ready to go. The accommodation's booked. The tyres are pumped and the training has begun in earnest. The songs are starting to sound pretty darned nice, too.

In short, there's no turning back now and unlike Fawkes and his bungling gang, we're going to blow the place apart.
